Instagram and Tiktok have rolled out some exciting new updates in December 2023, so here’s everything that you need to know to stay up-to-date on the latest social media news!
Feel like you’re getting more Instagram Reels views than usual? You’re not imagining it! Instagram updated their Reels view count to mean the total amount of times your Reel was played. In the past, it used to mean the amount of unique viewers who watched your Reels. Now, the statistic measures the total view count of a specific Reel by adding the number of viewers plus the amount of replays. Take a peek in your insights to note what content has the most replay value and optimize your social media strategy according to that.
Just like you can change your normal feed to only show people you follow or favorites, you can now change your Reels feed to only show nearby content. This is a great opportunity for location-specific creators and businesses. Optimize by tagging the location in your content, adding the location to your bio, and stacking your content with relevant location-based keywords.
Remember when the Instagram in-app video editor used to suck? Well, they’ve made major improvements and are clearly going to continue investing funds in this direction. You can now undo and redo any video edits in the Instagram editor which will save us all so much time. They’ve also added ten new AI voices, a whole bunch of new fonts, and the ability to turn any of your photos into a meme-able sticker to add.
This is still in the testing phase, but Instagram is working on a feed that showcases only Meta-Verified creators. While this potentially could limit creativity and diversity, it could also be helpful in centering thought leaders and authorities in the industry.
You can now reach larger audiences with expanded translation and accessibility tools with translated auto-generated captions and text stickers. Some languages include English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Indonesian, Italian, Korean, Mandarin, Japanese, Turkish, and many more.
So there you have it–the biggest updates to Instagram and TikTok this month. We hope this helps you plan your 2024 social media strategy and get it off on the right foot!
