What made you take the leap in entrepreneurship?
I have always wanted to be my own boss, but I never trusted myself enough to take the leap. Until four years ago, I underwent emergency brain surgery to save my life from a brain hemorrhage. That moment taught me a lot. It was a life-changing experience in many ways. It made me realize life is too short and I need to be doing something everyday that brings me joy and purpose. I knew If I could overcome brain surgery, I could do anything. Moreover, it opened my eyes to the lack of resources available to people recovery from health traumas, and I was inspired to go back to school to become a health coach to help people through health journeys.
What’s your favorite part about being your own boss?
I get to make my own schedule. There is nothing more freeing and empowering. Also, being my own boss has no limits to what I can accomplish. When I was in the corporate world, there was a lot of red tape around implementing new processes and ideas. Being my own boss gives me the flexibility to put my ideas into motion.
Do you have any work philosophies that drive your business?
Be yourself. I truly believe if I am living in my truth, sharing my journey, being vulnerable and real, I will gain others respect and trust that what I am sharing is valuable. I remind myself to stay in my lane and to live and speak my truth daily.
What does “bringing breath to business” mean for you and your brand?
For me, mindfulness is everything. After I had brain surgery I started a daily meditation practice and it has helped me live in the present moment and be more intentional and smart about my decisions and actions. It seems like nowadays we are all running a mile a minute, not connected to ourselves and our actions. This can cause misalignment, stress and anxiety. It is important for me to stay grounded and I teach my clients how to stay grounded and calm in the chaotic world we live in. Every decision I make, every partnership I engage in, connection with others, client I choose to work with, etc is created from a thoughtful, calm mind.
What’s your biggest tip for social media success?
Being real, genuine and open to others opinions. Do not be afraid to reach out to others who you connect with and tell them that. Share your truth. Don’t worry about what others are doing. Focus on you and you message. You will naturally attract the right audience for you!
What would be the one piece of advice you’d give to someone working to “find their passion or purpose”?/piece of advice you’d give to someone working on building a brand/business?
Again, don’t worry about what anyone else is doing. Take time to sit quiet and understand your vision. Say no to anything that does not support that. Ask yourself WHY are you here. What is your purpose on this earth? It may take some trial and error so be patient with yourself along the way
