We’ve all been there–sometimes life happens and you lose your inspiration. Maybe it’s been a long week or even a long month. Regardless, take a moment to thank yourself for recognizing how you feel because change always begins with an observation! We’ve put together some of our top tips to help you pull yourself out of that inspiration rut!
1. Reflect
Take this time to check in with how you feel. Recognize that it’s okay to feel what you’re feeling and that those emotions do not define who you are.
- Ask yourself: is it fear or fun?
“Usually, we lose motivation and inspiration when we’re either afraid (fear throws down ‘I will zap you of inspiration!’ to get you to stop) or when you haven’t had any fun and you’ve made the thing you’re trying to create into an (ugh) chore,” Kate Swoboda, Your Courageous Life
- If it’s fear-based, what’s the worst that could happen? The absolute worst. Oftentimes, what we imagine is a lot worse than what realistically can happen.
- If it’s fun-related and life or work has become a chore, make something fun out of it! I had a coach who had a very specific cleaning tiara…because she HATED cleaning, she made a pact with herself that the only time she got to wear a princess tiara was when she was cleaning–she made something fun and uplifting out of something that otherwise was mundane.
2. Surround Yourself With New Ideas
Whether it’s browsing Pinterest, listening to your favorite podcast, or watching a creative film, immerse yourself in something (outside of your norm) that inspires you.

3. Take A Break
Instead of continuing to push yourself – honor the fact that you may actually NEED a BREAK. Life will go on after your break, don’t worry!
- Get moving: go for a walk, hit the gym, or do some yoga (check out these five yoga poses for winding down).
- Unplug: disconnect from your phone and take a meditation break or cuddle with your fur-baby instead. Use this time to appreciate the natural world and all that you have around you.
- Treat yourself: whether it’s a weekend getaway or a cupcake, do something that brings you joy!
4. Keep It Simple
If there are deadlines to be met, take it slow and treat yourself with kindness.
- Aim low: when you’re feeling unmotivated, set easy goals. Don’t beat yourself up any more than you already have.
- Stick to your schedule. Stability and routine can do wonders when you’re feeling uninspired.
5. Connect
Friends and family are there for a reason.
- Take some time out of your day to hang out or chat with your support system. Tapping into empathy and connection will give you perspective and allow you to reset.
